Creating a striking statement to the exterior of the renovated Sunnybank Hotel in suburban Brisbane,  the 3 linked Monacos create a relaxed atmosphere for patrons to enjoy an outdoor dining experience.

The Brief

Sunnybank Hotel underwent a renovation project that included upgrading the outdoor dining space with a new canopy shade structure.  The addition of a Modular Shade Structure increased the utilisation of the Beer Garden by creating a covered outdoor setting with shade and weather protection for patrons. The new canopy provides patrons an alternative space to use for dining, function and events.

The Concept

MakMax Australia designed, supplied and installed 3 x linked MS60L Monaco shade structures.

The Monaco Linear Edge model was the ideal choice for this setting because the fixed, straight-edge increased the usable space and allowed for more seating under the canopy.  By linking multiple units together the client was able to further increase the shade and weather protected area over the alfresco dining space

The Materials

The aesthetics of the structure were considered as the venue is located on a busy road intersection in the heart of Sunnybank.  The linked Monaco shade structure is an architectural statement that draws attention from onlookers and passing traffic.

The 3 linked MS60L Monaco Linear units was manufactured with Mehler FR580 ‘Dust Grey’ PVC membrane.  The ‘Pearl White’ steel frame contrasts the dark coloured membrane to create a stylish shade structure.

The Result

The addition of heaters, picnic tables, TVs and festoon lights in the space, creates an alternative space that patrons can enjoy, even on a cold winter’s night.  At night, the festoon lights under the canopy creates a relaxed atmosphere while also capturing the attention of onlookers.

“We are pleased with the new MakMax shade – strong and sturdy. It was interesting watching them put it together – stretching the fabric and installing the structure. We had plenty of onlookers and comments when the structure was getting built. Overall, we have had lots of positive feedback and experiences.” – Jayden Lowry, Venue Manager.
