Installed in 2009, the 12 Spacio Shopping Mall Umbrellas help to transform the Lisbon shopping mall’s rooftop terrace into a cool, shady and stylish alfresco haven.
The Brief
In the heart of the vibrant city of Lisboa, Portugal, Spacio Shopping Mall embarked on an innovative project to enhance its rooftop terrace and create an inviting outdoor alfresco food court. Recognizing the need for an aesthetically pleasing and functional solution, the mall opted for the installation of twelve stylish permanent architectural umbrellas, specifically the MakMax Centra CS50 and MakMax Centra CS32 models – six of each strategically placed to provide optimal coverage.
The Materials
The umbrella canopies feature Mehler FR700 PVC Fabric, ensuring durability and weather resistance to withstand the dynamic elements of Lisboa’s climate. The frames, constructed from white powder coated steel, not only add a touch of modern elegance but also contribute to the structural integrity of the umbrellas, offering a seamless blend of form and function.
Adding an extra layer of sophistication and comfort, the Spacio Shopping Mall Umbrellas come equipped with under-canopy Celmec Heating & Lighting. This thoughtful inclusion not only extends the usability of the outdoor space during cooler evenings but also creates an enchanting ambiance for patrons to enjoy their dining experience.
The installation process itself was no small feat – concrete pad footings were strategically positioned under the timber deck, ensuring a secure and stable foundation for the umbrellas to thrive.
