A unique project in an iconic location, the Sydney Opera House Function Centre Umbrellas are a fantastic example of the highly-adaptable design and aesthetic elegance of our Architectural Umbrella range.
The Brief
The brief from the client was to install a series of 6 CS32 Centra Architectural Umbrellas that matched the luxurious aesthetic of the Sydney Opera House Function Centre. The umbrellas were to provide shade first and foremost, and located on the harborside of one of Australia’s most iconic landmarks, a key requirement was that the umbrellas could be removed when the function centre was not in use.
The Materials
One of the unique aspects of the Sydney Opera House Function Centre Umbrellas is the PVC Soltis 86 Mesh fabric. Normally fabricated with fully-waterproof PVC canopies, these umbellas are designed to offer shade-only. The Serge Ferrari Soltis 86 is a PVC mesh that still maintains the same strength and durability of architectural PVC. The choice of PVC Soltis 86 Mesh fabric showcases a thoughtful departure from convention, offering strength and durability while maintaining an exclusive focus on shading.
The base of the umbrella poles was designed to fit into a specially designed brass pavement socket, a departure from our standard stainless steel pavement socket.
The color harmony achieved through the Pepper-hued PVC mesh and matching powder-coated framework seamlessly integrates with the Opera House’s structural palette. The incorporation of brass pavement sockets adds a final touch of elegance, contributing to the overall color scheme.
