The Latitude 25 Bowling Green Shade structures installed at the RV Residential Community in Hervey Bay compliment the brand-new leisure facilities built at the lifestyle village. Consisting of two 27m long, cantilever-arch structures with PVC membrane canopies, the structures provide shade at the players end of the bowling green.

The Brief

Having worked with numerous bowls clubs to provide full cover canopies, we were recommended as subcontractor to provide shade for a private bowling green in the Latitude 25 RV Lifestyle Community Health Hub and Leisure Facilities. Working with PBS Building QLD, we developed these bespoke shade structures for the bowling green with a high-quality look and feel to compliment the brand new leisure facilities.

The Concept

This project was a fantastic example of cross-pollination value engineering. Combining our expertise in cantilever carpark shade structure design, with our knowledge of shade patterns and sun positioning for bowling club applications, we were able to adapt our standard single-bay carpark shade into an attractive and elegant arched shade structure.

The Materials

A major challenge faced during the Latitude 25 Bowling Green Shade project was with the position of the existing lighting poles. A solution was found in the form of a circular clamp extrusion created a porthole in the fabric without sacrificing any tension.

The addition of black powdercoat steel rather than a galvanised finish creates an elegant shade structure that blends seamlessly into the surrounding steelwork of the lighting poles, restaurant, and the nearby tennis court fencing. The catenary edge of the fabric sits behind an additional painted crossbeam – seen from the opposite end of the green, the crossbeam forms a neat parallel visual frame to the structure.

The Result

Designed to create shade for players without restricting sunlight to the grass playing surface, the Latitude 25 Bowling Green Shade structures work to create a unique and elegant shade solution that blends seamless into the visual aesthetic of their surroundings.
