Located in the Matron Ruby Grant Park precinct on Joyton Avenue, the Green Square Circular Shade Structures are a set of 3 custom-design PVC Mesh discs.

The Brief

MakMax originally worked with the project landscape architects, JMD design to realise their vision of three circular shade structures to cover the new playground area.

The concept of circles informs the design of the whole park landscape, offsetting the rectangular courtyard and surround hard edged buildings.

Using three circular shade structures have a playful use of differing alignment planes, both vertically and horizontally. The grouping of the structures – a larger stand-alone circle and two smaller circles that a joined a point on their circumference, also speaks to this playful design composition.

The Materials

The membrane shade panels have been fabricated into their circular form using Serge Ferrari Soltis 86 PVC Mesh in Boulder colour.

The 3 circular sections are sized between ⌀6m and ⌀6.5m, and installed at different heights (between 4m and 5m). The circles are supported on seven columns, with all the steelwork coated in multi-layer architectural paint – Dulux Endless Dusk colour.
