Completed in August 2018, the Cherrybrook Technical High School TensoSport canopy was a pivotal component of the school’s comprehensive redevelopment initiative. The installation of the MakMax TensoSport structure has helped to enhance the school’s facilities, providing a weather-protected space for sports, learning, and assembly.
The Brief
The TensoSport project brief was to create a versatile shade structure covering two basketball courts, covering approximately 1300 square metres (34m x 38m). The MakMax TensoSport Canopy was chosen not only to offer sun and wet weather protection for physical education classes and sports competitions, but also to serve as a Covered Outdoor Learning Area (COLA) and an additional school assembly location. Collaboration with TCQ Construction, the head contractor overseeing school building construction, ensured seamless integration with the broader redevelopment. The court surface, which was installed at the completion of MakMax’s construction phase, was by local Sydney sports surface specialist, Court Craft.
The Materials
The MakMax TensoSport canopy features a robust HDG steel frame, ensuring durability, longevity and minimal maintenance requirements. The architectural fabric roof is crafted from Mehler FR900, a high-quality PVC material. Opting for PVC brings numerous benefits, including exceptional durability, resistance to weather elements, and ease of maintenance. This choice aligns with the project’s goal of providing a sustainable, long-lasting solution for the school’s outdoor spaces.
The canopy was further enhanced with LED lighting, providing the ability for after school training and practice.
The Result
The completed TensoSport canopy, seamlessly integrated into the school’s environment, has transformed the ability to offer a sun-safe play area for students. Beyond that, it serves as a multifunctional space for physical education, sports events, outdoor learning, and school assemblies.
The Cherrybrook Technical High School TensoSport canopy stands as a testament to functional design and enduring quality. The school now boasts enhanced facilities that cater to the diverse needs of its students, irrespective of weather conditions.
