Located in the heart of Burwood, Sydney, the Burwood Park Amphitheatre, known locally as the Burwood Park Pavilion, is a striking example of form meeting function. Completed in May 2016, the project saw MakMax design, fabricate and install a custom tensile membrane roof to create an inviting and weather-protected outdoor performance space for the local community.
The structure features a distinctive double conical design, constructed using a radially seamed PTFE membrane. With a total covered area of 400m², the amphitheatre roof combines visual elegance with engineered performance, offering high durability, excellent light transmission, and long-term resistance to weather and environmental conditions.
The design enhances the acoustics and visual appeal of the open-air stage while providing shelter for performances, ceremonies and cultural events. The structure’s central mast and curved-edge detailing create a strong architectural focal point that sits harmoniously within the leafy surrounds of Burwood Park.
The Burwood Park Amphitheatre is available for hire through Burwood Council and continues to be a vibrant venue for community gatherings, live performances and family-friendly events.
