Longitude 131° Resort is a luxury resort located in the heart of Australia, overlooking the iconic outback landscapes with unrivalled views of the natural wonder, Uluru (Ayers Rock). Amongst the red-rust dunes are sixteen tented pavilions providing a unique and unforgettable ‘glamping’ experience in one of Australia’s most extraordinary remote locations.

The fifteen luxury guest tents are designed to ‘float’ above the red desert floor, offering a unique and intimate encounter with the vast and unspoiled outback landscape.  The large central double-conical pavilion, the Dune House Lounge & Restaurant, has spectacular panoramic views of Uluru, providing a dramatic backdrop for an exclusive fine dining experience.

The Brief

Longitude 131 Resort Uluru

The Concept

Longitude 131 Resort has been carefully designed to have minimal impact on the delicate natural environment. The sixteen pavilion structures were prefabricated and assembled on location using light-weight machinery to minimise the impact on the delicate ecology.

The luxury guest tents and Dune House were designed and engineered using tensile membrane fabrics. Chosen for its strength, flexibility and durability, tensile membrane offers a unique sustainable design, including the ability to be dismantled and removed entirely, restoring the rolling red sand dunes to their original state.

The luxury guest tent pavilions are made up of three separate layers of tensile membrane fabric to enhance thermal and acoustic insulation, maintaining a comfortable interior climate.

The Dune House is a much larger structure, designed to be the central hub of Longitude 131 Resort, where guests can dine and relax.  The double conical translucent roof maximises the natural light to create a welcome open space surrounded by the spectacular outback scenery.

The strength and flexibility of the architectural fabric means the structures can withstand anything that our environment throws at them, including the desert sands of Uluru. The sixteen tented pavilions at Longitude 131 Resort are equally impressive in daylight on the red desert sands or at night as they transform into lanterns in the vast desert landscape.
