The DoubleTree By Hilton Waterfront Umbrellas project showcases the seamless integration of functional engineering and elegant design in a high-end hospitality setting. Installed by our trusted WA-based distribution partners, Shade Engineering, four MakMax Centra Umbrellas now provide stylish and reliable shade to the 18 Knots Rooftop Bar atop the DoubleTree by Hilton Waterfront hotel.
Located in a prominent, wind-exposed rooftop position overlooking Perth’s Swan River, the installation required customised engineering solutions. The Centra Umbrellas were upgraded to meet site-specific conditions, including increased wind ratings and extra-height steel columns to maintain clear sightlines and accommodate the unique rooftop layout.
Ideal for hospitality venues seeking durable, wind-rated shade solutions, these hotel umbrellas not only enhance guest comfort during al fresco dining but also contribute to the bar’s visual appeal.
The Materials
This project demonstrates the versatility of the MakMax Centra Umbrella range. The installation includes a mix of umbrella shapes and sizes, with three CS38 Square Umbrellas and one large C050 Octagonal Umbrella providing a cohesive yet varied aesthetic.
To complement the DoubleTree’s sophisticated rooftop setting, the umbrellas feature a Champagne-coloured waterproof PVC canopy, offering excellent UV protection while enhancing the premium look and feel of the space. The steel frame is finished in a subtle Primrose powdercoat, ensuring durability and harmonising with the rooftop’s contemporary colour palette.
