The Wave

‍The Wave at Broadbeach on the Gold Coast has been designed with the effect of waves within its architecture. In order to continue on with this concept, awnings in the same shape were needed to shade the areas of the lower floor. The awning structure was created to reflect the design of the building whilst also creating practical cover for the restaurant areas on the first floor.

On the design front, the varying radii on both the inner and outer edges of the awning was close in proximity that it required the use of a highly dense mesh for the patterning model as well as many individual panels. The varying radii also presented a unique challenge for installation for a PTFE membrane since tight radii are difficult to tension out.

Overall the project was a success as it created a beautiful addition to the building’s fascia whilst providing ultimate weather protection for the restaurants and shops on the first floor.
