Cairns Radisson

‍Based in Cairns Queensland Australia, this prestigious hotel did not want a simple awning structure; their shade solution had to reflect the high quality of the hotel brand to their guests.   The result was both practical and beautiful.

The top of the structure, a connected series of cones covering 5,000sqm, is made from highly durable Sheerfill V PTFE.  Special aesthetic consideration was given to the top view of this structure as hotel guest rooms are all above the awning.  Special on-site welding was done on the PTFE during installation to ensure there were no unsightly field joints.

The underneath ‘ceiling’ is a lightweight PVC which hides heavy structural steel.  Lighting was installed in the space between the top and bottom layers of membrane to create a lamp effect.  Diffused lighting sets the mood for an intimate meal at the restaurants below.
