Twice as Nice at the 2011 ACASPA Awards for Excellence!

MakMax Australia has recently received Awards for Excellence at the 2011 Australian Canvas and Synthetic Products Association (ACASPA) annual Awards for Excellence ceremony.

The highly respected award in the Tension Structures – Coated Fabrics greater than 500sqm category went to MakMax for the Metricon Stadium project. A second Award for Excellence in the General category was awarded to MakMax for the Trailfinders Australian Garden presented by Flemings project which MakMax manufactured.

MakMax Managing Director Bernie Neylan said the company was proud to win such prestigious awards for projects that demonstrate the dynamic applications of tensile membrane designs as well as showcase MakMax and the diversity in capabilities.

While both projects use tensile membrane the two could not be more dissimilar. Metricon Stadium consists of a 14,00sqm fabric roof at the newly redeveloped Carrara Stadium on the Gold Coast. Trailfinders Australian Garden presented by Flemings was a unique exhibition stand purpose built for the 2011 RSH Chelsea Flower Show in London, UK. This prject has been featured by Better Homes & Gardens magazine as well as Home online. Mr Neylan said that as the ACASPA Awards for Excellence has recognised high achievement in design and innovation for more than six decades, winning two awards this year is a nice addition to our resume.

“We have been consistently successful at ACASPA awards events winning at least one award almost every year since 1998! At MakMax we pride ourselves on creating the highest designs for each project need and all with the budget in mind,” Mr Neylan said.

Mr Neylan continues, saying “The Trailfinders Australian Garden presented by Flemings project is a perfect example of this, bringing a creative and effective combination of fabrics, practices and manufacturing techniques to create something that embodies the designers’ wants and needs. This is something we pride ourselves in.”

The ACASPA award ceremony took place in Sydney this year, where the annual trade event ran from July 22 to 25. ACASPA Expo is the largest specialty fabrics trade show in Australia. ACASPA Manager, Ana Drougas reflects on this year’s awards.

“The judges were in awe at the very high standards evident in each and every contestant’s entry,” said Ms Drougas. “Behind it, each and every entry has a team of dedicated professionals who help bring plans to fruition… the bar seems to be raised every year but industry professionals continue to meet the challenge by executing and displaying increasingly superb workmanship.” concludes Ms Drougas.

Entries were judged by industry experts who were selected for their knowledge in a particular field of study or product area. Winners were selected based on complexity, design, workmanship, uniqueness and function. The goal of the Awards for Excellence is to promote awareness of the specialty fabrics used in thousands of products and applications.
